Top 5 ways to earn money [A guide]

Money is something that plays a major role in our lives, is an undeniable truth. I see hundreds of questions daily on various social media platforms such as Youtube, Quora, Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, etc.

So I’ve decided to write a few ways (not in any particular order) that I found are really worth exploring in order to make money.

These are not, get rich quick ways, and neither I am promising that you’ll become a millionaire or a billionaire by using these inputs. At the same time, if one is prudent enough to use these ways effectively, we cannot rule out the possibility of one making good money.

So given this disclaimer, it all depends on the interest, effort, and sincerity with which one pursues these avenues in addition to one’s skill and ability in providing value to the people around. Here we go.

1. Fiverr/ UpWork / Freelancer

These are online marketplaces that enable transactions around digital services to be exchanged between remote professionals, agencies, and customers. You can easily provide any service that you have expertise in and start earning money. There are many such websites but I have picked the popular ones.

Starting from niche areas like digital marketing, Graphic Designing, Content Writing, Video & Animation, Music & Audio, Programming and Technology, Business, Lifestyle services, etc. they have got various other options among which you can choose to provide the services.

Even the process to join and start contributing is pretty simple. These websites are highly recommended if you would like to make use of your few free hours as a hobby (or) even as a part/full-time profession that earns you money. 

2. Stock Market

Learning about the fundamentals of the stock market (refer my other post How to pick the right stock?) through books, training, or workshops along with opening a Demat account is all that is required to start earning in stocks.

The two general ways of looking at the stock’s performance are Fundamental Analysis (or) Technical Analysis (or) a combination of both. It can be a combination of your learning from the print and social media along with the interaction with the successful people who have already experienced a great deal in these areas, that can enable you to learn more about this domain.

There is no end to learning here and it depends on one’s appetite to learn and execute the financial strategies, that can fetch good money.

Also irrespective of the way we see the stock market, investing must be a part of our daily financial wisdom. If investing is a must to achieve financial freedom, then stocks for sure must be a part of your investment portfolio.

3. Writing

There are various views and opinions regarding writing, be it books, blogs, stories, articles, reviews, etc. Few consider that books and blogging are part of the old wine. But with the digital content consumption increasing every day, this old wine is filled to the brim in new bottles and is being presented with a pinch of creativity today.

The presence of more than 5 billion mobile users, the success of apps like Amazon Kindle, Pinterest, Pocket, etc. are evidence of this. So writing is still in the game much more than ever.  

Not just as a hobby but if one has a passion for writing, there are various professional career options emerged if one would like to choose such as Content Creator, Digital Marketer, Advertising Manager, Social Media Manager, etc which are intertwined with writing and can aid one’s financial success.

Adding to this Creative Writing has emerged as a good option especially with the emergence of freelancers and new-age digital OTT platforms. And it is grit with consistency in learning that can earn you money when writing is chosen as an option.

4. YouTuber

YouTube as a platform, gets the credit for turning many people into self-employers, with their skills being shared with the people across the world. In fact, it made the world much smaller in terms of geographical reach be it in sharing information, news, skills, knowledge, wisdom and whatnot.

Creating marketable content with YouTube as a medium can earn you money accordingly, as per the value it brings to the users. Starting from selling products, crowdfunding, Brand promotion, Promote your ideas, Reviewing products, sponsored content creation, and the list goes on.

5. Teaching

Teaching to students be it offline in your neighborhood or online has become a major avenue for making money. Education and Health have a wider impact on the world, using improved and innovative teaching methods can be a great way to make money.

With the recent COVID-19 impact the increase in adoption of online teaching by schools and colleges has made education much closer to the people in need. So if you have a few hours to teach and can use your skill and ability to create innovative teaching methods, anything under the sun can be your subject and can earn you money.

Conclusion

There are many ways in which you can make money, but I have chosen these five which I felt can be really scalable, can be pursued as a fulltime options as well and not just as a hobby.

Along with earning money, these five ways can improve our own knowledge and wisdom, act as a great launching platform to build networks and create a niche for yourself in turn that can be a great opening for your other entrepreneurial ideas for the future.
